Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

A resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide was introduced into the Bulgarian Parliament.

The Armenian Genocide (1915-1923) was the deliberate and systematic destruction of the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire during and just after World War I. It was characterized by massacres, and deportations involving forced marches under conditions designed to lead to the death of the deportees, with the total number of deaths reaching 1.5 million.

While Germany officially recognized the Jewish Holocaust, Turkey still denies the Armenian Genocide and spreads its denial policy throughout the world. This is the reason why the descendants of Armenian Genocide victims fight for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide all over the world.

The Armenian Genocide has been recognized so far by the United Nations, the European Parliament, the International Association of Genocide Scholars, the Permanent People’s Tribunal, the Council of Europe, the World Council of Churches and many states such as Armenia, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Lebanon, Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Chile and the Vatican City.

Moreover, Sofia, Burgas, Plovdiv, Ruse and Stara Zagora City Councils, the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, 44 US states, the National Assembly for Wales, the First Minister for Wales, the majority of United Kingdom Members of Parliament from Scotland and Northern Ireland, Ukraine's Supreme Council of Crimea, the Australian states of New South Wales and South Australia, Spain's Basque and Catalan regional Parliaments also recognized the Armenian Genocide.

We are surprised that the Bulgarian Parliament has not recognized the Armenian genocide yet. Bulgarians and Armenians have always maintained most kindly and friendly relations with each other.

A similar resolution was voted down in February. A new rejection would tarnish Bulgaria's image abroad and strengthen Turkish denialist arguments.

Therefore, we would be very grateful if you could vote for the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide and urge Bulgarian Members of Parliament to pass it.
